Brecon Jazz Club & Festival

In 2022, Brecon Jazz Festival, in collaboration with NPTC College students from the Brecon Beacons Campus and Tantrwm Media, was awarded a grant from the Audrey Tyler Trust to support an innovative ‘Taster Day’ for the annual Brecon Jazz Festival. The funding was primarily used to hire a giant screen, its trailer, and a team from Tantrwm Media to operate the equipment during both the June ‘Taster Day’ and the August festival itself.

On the day of the Taster Event, College music students performed live outside the ‘Cwtch’ building in Brecon town, engaging with the community by handing out leaflets, organizing a street collection, and selling BJF merchandise.

In addition to the College’s contributions, a small video crew was hired to capture footage of the event and gather interviews from the public, adding a unique aspect to the festival’s promotion. The festival also showcased the big screen as a major attraction, with full acknowledgment of the Audrey Tyler Trust’s support on all promotional materials.

This collaboration has helped to bring together the creative talents of the students and the Brecon Jazz Festival, enriching the cultural offering of the town while fostering the next generation of musicians and media professionals.

The project provided an opportunity for students to create a ‘showreel’ showcasing jazz images and video clips, which were displayed on the big screen during the events. The students also designed promotional materials, including a special poster featuring the Audrey Tyler Trust’s credit, which was distributed around the town.
